The Health, Education, and Entrepreneurship Development (HEED) Foundation was officially launched in Asokore-Koforidua with a successful three-day series of community-centered activities aimed at promoting health awareness, educational empowerment, and youth development.
The historic launch brought together community leaders, students, parents, healthcare professionals, volunteers, and residents in a shared vision of improving lives through sustainable programs focused on health, education, and entrepreneurship.
The three-day event, held from March 10 to March 12, marked the beginning of what organizers described as a long-term commitment to empowering underserved communities and creating opportunities for growth and development.
Youth Workshop Opens the Launch Activities
The launch activities commenced on Friday evening with a youth workshop themed “Drug Abuse and Our Youth: Awareness is Critical.” The educational session focused on the growing concern of substance abuse among young people and the importance of early intervention, education, and community support.
The workshop featured presentations from healthcare and social service professionals, including:
- Dr. Adae Opoku Amoako, Physician (USA)
- An addiction counselor and social worker from Ghana
- A Ghanaian pharmacist
Participants engaged in discussions on the dangers of drug abuse, peer pressure, mental health challenges, and the importance of making informed life choices. The interactive session encouraged young people to become ambassadors for healthy living and responsible decision-making within their communities.
Community Health Walk and Official Launch Ceremony
Saturday’s activities began early in the morning with the “HEED to Healthy Living” Jog and Walk, a community health awareness exercise that brought together residents from Asokore and surrounding areas. Accompanied by a brass band procession, participants walked from the Asokore/Effiduase Junction to the Community Center in a public demonstration promoting physical activity and healthy lifestyles.
Later in the day, the official launch ceremony of the HEED Foundation took place at the Community Center with dignitaries, community members, educators, and invited guests in attendance.
The ceremony featured:
- Welcoming of guests and dignitaries
- Opening prayer
- Introduction of the Foundation
- Presentation of the Foundation’s logo, colors, vision, aims, and objectives
- Overview presentations on the Foundation’s Education, Entrepreneurship, and Health initiatives
Foundation representatives shared the inspiration behind the establishment of HEED Foundation and outlined the organization’s mission to support vulnerable populations through practical and sustainable community programs.
The Education Initiative focused on improving access to quality educational support, mentorship, and academic resources for students. The Entrepreneurship Initiative highlighted plans to empower youth through vocational training and small business support programs, while the Health Initiative emphasized preventive healthcare education and community wellness outreach.
One of the highlights of the ceremony was the public introduction of the Foundation’s first beneficiaries under the education and entrepreneurship support initiatives. Organizers also unveiled the HEED Foundation’s official Facebook page as part of efforts to expand public engagement and awareness.
The event also featured entertainment performances from local groups, fundraising activities, and community interactions aimed at fostering collective ownership of the Foundation’s mission.
Health Fair Promotes Preventive Healthcare
The final day of the launch activities concluded with a community health fair themed “Health for All.”
The health outreach was led by a multidisciplinary team of physicians and nurses from both Ghana and the United States, including:
- Dr. Adae Opoku Amoako, Physician (USA)
- Ms. Abena Aseidua Boateng, Nurse (USA)
- Additional healthcare professionals and nurses from Ghana
The health fair focused on preventive healthcare education and community wellness awareness. Residents received health education, screenings, and medical guidance aimed at encouraging early detection and healthier lifestyles.
Organizers emphasized the importance of accessible healthcare education in reducing preventable diseases and improving long-term community health outcomes.
