ASOKORE SDA SCHOOL WINS MAIDEN HEED FOUNDATION QUIZ COMPETITION

The Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) School in Asokore Koforidua produced a stunning display of brilliance in Maths and Science to emerge winners of the maiden HEED Foundation Quiz competition organized for all schools in the Asokore township.
The Quiz competition, which had other schools such as the Roman Catholic School, the Methodist School and the Salvation Army School competing, was put together by the Foundation as part of its series of activities to round up its programs for the 2019 year.
The winning school, represented by final year Junior High School (JSS) students,….. took home gold medals each and a cash prize of Gh500. The students from the Roman Catholic School that emerged as the first runner up were also presented with silver medals.
Students from the remaining two schools had bronze medals as their participation prizes.
Presenting the awards to the winning school, the President of the HEED Foundation, Dr Adae Opoku Amoako commended all the competing schools for the level of knowledge demonstrated in the area of Science and Maths.
Having been impressed with the overall performance of the students representing their respective schools, Dr Amoako said that performance gives some great optimism for a bright future, especially as the students prepare to write their BECE final exams and further their studies at the Secondary level.
With the successful organization of the maiden quiz competition and the cooperation from all heads of competing schools, teachers, and other stakeholders, the US based medical doctor assured that the competition will be adopted as part of HEED’s yearly activities and if possible include schools from other neighboring towns.

HEED FOUNDATION TO BUILD A STATE OF THE ART RESEARCH AND TECHNOLOGY CENTER

The Health, Education and Entrepreneurship Development (HEED) Foundation is set to commence the construction of an ultra-modern state of the art Research and Technology Hub at Asokore-Koforidua in the Eastern Region of Ghana. The facility, which will take about six months to complete will have an Information Communication Technology (ICT) Suit, a Digital library, and a multipurpose conference auditorium.
The Chairman of the HEED Foundation, Dr Adae Amoako disclosed these when the Foundation ended its free Health screening exercise to round off its routine activities for the year at Asokore-Koforidua. The health screening exercise saw people screened in diseases such as Blood pressure (BP), Sugar (Diabetes), Breast Cancer and other general health related issues with medical doctors on hand to offer consultation and where possible prescribe treatment.
Dr. Adae Opoku Amoako reiterated that the idea behind the establishment of the Foundation was to help the youth develop their potentials through Education and Entrepreneurship development. He explained that these objectives will only be possible when the youth are health conscious of themselves and that of their environment they live in. This, Dr. Amoako revealed, informed the concept behind the HEED Foundation about two years ago.
The US based Ghanaian medical doctor said, the completion of the Research and Technology Centre will give an enormous boost to the educational needs of students in the town. According to him, the Centre, which will be one of a kind, will be one of the many legacies of HEED Foundation in its bid to help promote and bridge the ICT gap as well as incentivized the culture of reading and research among the student population in the town and other neighboring towns.
The HEED Foundation, since its inception in 2016, has given both educational and entrepreneurship support to students and young people who desired to learn vocational skills respectively, while organizing periodic health screening for people in its catchment areas. ‘’over the course of the years, the Foundation has been able to help Junior High School students with scholarships as well as enrolled people into vocational training to ensure that they are well placed to continue their education and have a decent living after the completion of their trade’’, Dr. Amoako stated. He assured that the Foundation will continue to support the aspirations of brilliant but needy students and young entrepreneurs who need support to make their dreams come true.

TEENAGE PREGNANCY AND SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED DISEASE LECTURE BY HEED FOUNDATION VOLUNTEER

Mrs. Doris Opuni Owusu, a volunteer nurse for the Health, Education, and Entrepreneurship Development (H.E.E.D.) Foundation gave a lecture on the topic sex education (teenage pregnancy and sexually transmitted disease) at the SDA school in Suhum, a town and the capital of the Suhum/Kraboa/Coaltar district, a district in the Eastern Region of Ghana.
The students together with some of their teachers assembled in a classroom to listen to Mrs. Owusu as she delivered the comprehensive lectures.
She involved the students by asking them questions to find out their knowledge on the topic. She then used demonstrations, charts, and other materials to make it more understandable and interesting to the participants.
Most of the students in attendance had their notebook or a piece of paper to write down some notes.
The student and teachers were given the opportunity to ask questions as the nurse systematically answered each of them.
The headmaster and teachers expressed their appreciation to the HEED foundation through Mrs. Owusu for such an educative program and ask for more of such activities in their school.
This program was in fulfillment of the health initiative of the H.E.E.D. Foundation aim to promote health literacy and healthy living for the people of the constituencies and their surrounding areas.

H.E.E.D. FOUNDATION CONDUCTS HEALTH SCREENING IN ACCRA

Accra – Ghana, September 22nd –
The Health, Education, and Entrepreneurship Development (H.E.E.D). Foundation, on September 22nd and 23rd 2018 conducted a health screening at the Accra Polo Club as part of the Accra Food festival. The Accra Food festival saw over 1500 people from different parts of the world come to the venue over the two days of the celebration. The HEED team of health volunteers checked weight, blood pressure, and glucose.
The exercise was to identify participants who were at risk for developing diabetes, hypertension, and other cardiovascular diseases based on their numbers. Several participants at the event were screened.
There were health care personnel on site to advise at risk individuals. Those that needed further evaluation were directed to the appropriate clinic or hospital
One of the new health volunteers, Ms. Comfort Nkrumah, a nurse based in Winneba summarized her experience as; “this was a great experience as we got to screen people from different countries. I hope to continue to volunteer for HEED Foundation for years to come.

HEED Foundation Donates Stationery Items to 4 Primary Schools

Koforidua – ER, Aug. 21 – The Health Education Entrepreneurship and Development (HEED) Foundation made kind donations to three (4) schools at Asokore-Koforidua in the Eastern Region on the 16th of July, 2018. The foundation which is aimed at promoting health literacy and healthy living, scholarships and opportunity for entrepreneurial growth to the people of the communities it serves, presented stationery items to the schools namely Methodist, Roman Catholic, SDA and Salvation Army primary schools.
The foundation was represented by Ms. Mabel Boateng and Mr. Atta Kodua Boateng (Education Director of the foundation) during the presentations which the headmasters of the various schools were present and received the items with appreciation.
Amidst the presentation, the students were addressed by the leader of the delegation from HEED, Mr. Boateng who advised them to study hard and not indulge in things that would not benefit them in other to avoid results like teenage pregnancy.
The Chair of the foundation, Dr. Adae Opoku Amoako had hinted that, there will be more of these donations in the coming months not only in that region but schools across the country.
He said there are other activities they are putting together in partnership with very credible partners like Usher1 which will also be targeted at the schools especially the basic schools.

HEED Foundation Sponsors Afrodance Fitness with Usher1

Maryland – USA, July 22nd – The Afrodance Fitness with Usher 1 came off Wednesday, 4th of July at the Spotlight Studios in Maryland, USA. The program was aimed at encouraging participants to incorporate dancing into their exercise routines as it is a fun way of achieving similar results as traditional exercise regimens.

ENTREPRENEURS ENROLLED

Koforidua – Ghana, June 18th – The Health, Education, and Entrepreneurship Development foundation is winding down this year’s activities with implementation of one of their main projects. This past May, the foundation successfully enrolled its first class of entrepreneurs ; three people into vocational schools and also gave seed money to one entrepreneur in starting his business. The enrollees were Ms. Felicia Adu, Ms, Gifty Amoani, and Ms. Sarah Twenewaa who were enrolled in dress and clothes making, hair dressing, and culinary arts (with emphasids on bakery) respectively. Mr. Isaac Oppong was the fourth beneficiary of the program. He wanted to start a poultry farm and HEED helped him with financial assistant with his first purchase of chicken and feeds to start. He will also receive business and finance management training in the future. Mr. Joshua Wiredu (member of the entrepreneurship committee) presented items and money on behalf of HEED for Ms. Adu and Amoani and Mr. Oppong. Mr. Daniel Twum (HEED Foundation Chief Financial Officer) presented a check to Ms. Twenewaa on behalf of HEED. In his remarks during the presentation, he stated “this goes to show that the tentacles of the HEED foundation is not just in the Eastern Region but the whole country and will continue to access well deserved individuals who need the foundation’s support“.
Mrs. Cecilia Amoako, director of entrepreneurship of the HEED foundation thanked the volunteers on her committee for their help from planning to execution of this endeavor. She admonished the enrollees to take advantage of this opportunity which is sought by several individuals but can only be provided to a few at the moment.
